Akita City

Akita City is the capital of Akita Prefecture. After the victory of the Tokugawa Family over the Toyotomi Family in 1600, Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, moved the Satake Family from Hitachi (present-day Ibaraki Prefecture) to Akita. The Satake Family constructed Kubota Castle, around which the town of Akita developed. Kubota Castle was destroyed in a fire in 1880, and only a watchtower remains in Senshu Park.
