Fascinating Cloisonné Ware

You can enjoy making traditional crafts at the Handmade Studio on the second floor.
Cloisonné ware is created by baking a glassy glaze onto a metal or ceramic surface, then polishing it. Various techniques are used in the process.
There are simple as well as sophisticated wares manufactured by skilled artisans. Their colors do not fade, nor their glow, for years.
The Japanese word for cloisonné ware, Shippou, comes from the seven treasures in the Buddhist scriptures: gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, giant clamshells, agate, and pearl (although there are various theories on what constitutes the seven treasures).
