Omagari Hanabi has been held in its current location since the 43rd competition in 1969. Until then, the venue was near Taisei Bridge, where Omono River meets Maruko River that runs alongside the Hanabi Museum. Crowds used to stream out of Omagari Station, head straight to the Maruko River, and make their way along the river towards the venue. However, the viewing area had become cramped due to an increase in spectators over the years. In 1969, upon completion of the engineering to the previously meandering Omono River, the venue was moved to the newly straightened banks. The area around Taisei Bridge was reclaimed, but in the process, a new, straight, and more spacious venue was secured.
