Jōmon prayers and festivals

The Jōmon people conducted a variety of festivals and prayers out of fear of natural disasters like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and fires, poor harvests of vegetative foods due to climate change, the dangers of hunting, and disease and death as well as in thanks for the blessings of the natural world. Everyone in the village would also gather to hold grand and solemn festivals for important life events like births, coming of age, marriage, and death.
