According to the archives of the Togashi Family, the chief family of shrine parishioners, the main hall of Koshio Shrine was built in 1570 by Mr Togashi, who assumed the representation of Lord Tozawa in the area. The architecture was by the hands of Jimbei, a carpenter from Furukawa Town of Yoshiki County (Gifu Prefecture). Various techniques are used with rich details and makes the building “the most precious and rarest of all” and a “world-class piece of art beyond all architecural models, Japanese, Chinese or even celestial one.” In 1930, it was designated the first “national treasure” in Akita Prefecture.
