A maar is a volcanic crater caused by a phreatomagmatic or volcanic eruption, a rare geological feature. The Oga Peninsula has three maars: Ichi-no-Me gata (“Eye-Shaped Lake Number One”), Ni-no-Me gata (“Eye-Shaped Lake Number Two”), and San-no-Me gata (“Eye-Shaped Lake Number Three”).
