Saddle with Maki-e Decoration of Mulberries, Pears, and Turtles

Maki-e (“sprinkled picture”) is a technique of Japanese lacquerware where gold and silver are sprinkled on half-dried lacquered items. Several saddles with maki-e decorations are in the inherited collection of the Satake family and they are all of high quality.
