For the construction of the new castle, Yoshinobu Satake chose Kubota, saying “It is close to Omono River and close to the port of Tsuchizaki and is at the center of the domain.”
The castle town was designed around the castle on top of the hill (Mt. Shimmei), surrounded by a samurai area (called “Inner Town”), a bourgeois town beyond Asahi River (called “Outer Town”), and a temple town beyond the Outer Town as a buffer zone for security. The clear zoning of the castle town later helped it to develop commercial and industrial activities. The castle town of the olden days now makes up the core part of Akita City.
