In front of this explanatory plaque is the maar of Ninomegata with the Bay of Toga behind it. In terms of formation, the Bay of Toga is in fact yet another maar. Waves are soft in the bay, which harbors a good swimming beach and is also used for aquaculture. For the same reason, it has long been used as a safe haven for long-distance vessels and is today designated as a regional shelter port.
