Although the style of the building reminds us of old Northern European architectures, it is well adapted to the surrounding traditional buildings.

The site is the birthplace of history and education in Kakunodate city. Originally, in the Edo period, this was the site of the house of the Satake-Kita family. Later, the public school “Kakunodate Junior High School” was built here.

Hirafuku Memorial Museum of Arts is named after the Hirafuku father and son. Their works, as well as those of other well-known local artists such as Naotake Odano, are exhibited.

Back to Samurai District

The Hirafuku Memorial Museum of Arts is located within the Samurai District, and exhibits works by Hirafuku (father and son) and other local artists.
