Yoshishige Satake’s Kobata (Small Flag)

This flag was used in battles by Yoshishige Satake, the father of the first generation head of the Satake family, Yoshinobu Satake. It is a kobata (small flag), but is bigger than an ordinary kobata, which was usually put on the back of an armor set or was raised to indicate the identity of a combat group. It is still a kobata in that it is smaller than the seiki (main flag) that was raised at the headquarters during wartime.
