Lake Tazawa Area (Statue of Tatsuko and other points of interest)

Lake Tazawa is a caldera lake (a lake formed by volcanic eruptions) and the deepest lake in Japan, the color of which changes mysteriously from season to season. A scenic bus trip around the lake or boat trip across the lake will take you to the golden statue of Tatsuko, a legendary princess who transformed herself into a dragon. On the northern shore is the Goza-no-ishi Shrine, known for its strikingly beautiful red gate and spiritual atmosphere.
