Kansagu Shrine (Ukiki Shrine)

This small Shinto shrine juts out over Lake Tazawa. According to the explanation board: “This shrine was called Yujiri Myojin until being named Kansagu by Masudo Soshu (Minister of Finance of the Kubota domain, poet, and Confucianist, 1726–1777). The lake’s name was again changed to Kansako (Lake Kansa), or simply Sako. The framed board ‘Kansagu’ above the front entrance was given by Masudo Soshu to young Saito Sentaro, who served him as a boatman when Soshu visited the lake.” The shrine is also called Ukiki (Drift Wood) Shrine, because it is dedicated to a large tree that drifted to this spot.
