Layout of the Satake-Kita House
This floor plan was left in the Ishiguro house; it was probably established between the end of the Edo era and the start of the Meiji era (1853–1868).
The residence of the lords of Kakunodate, the Satake-kita family, does not exist any longer, but the excellence of its structure is imaginable from the number of rooms assigned for each purpose.
By combining “Yumi-no-ma (the room for arches)” and “Teppo-no-ma (the room for firearms),” a 64-tatami-large hall (1 tatami = 1.6 square meters) should have appeared, with large pillars and lintels, making it a great architectural achievement.
